Al Salam (2022)
Just down the street from the upscale Cotton and Rye restaurant on Habersham, is a humble little Mediterranean deli – Al Salaam. Owner, Meqbel is as warm and inviting as one of his delicious signature gyros. Whether it’s the adorable interactions with his relatively reserved wife, or his amusing take on world events, the jovial Jordanian is an absolute delight. The place has a very homely aesthetic, which makes the experience even more enjoyable. They may not have a lot of fancy tables or a maître d’ to greet you with a plastered smile, but you won’t find a better lamb Gyro anywhere in Savannah.
New York (2021)
Many years ago, my friend and I made a promise to each other that we would one day go to New York. It may not sound like much, but it was a big deal for a couple of young boys from a small Indian town. And in August 2021 our dream finally came true. It was everything I had expected and more. I got lost in the vast vertical expanse of the city. With all the tall buildings around me, it was hard to look down. Of course, when I did I was greeted by a dead rat. I enjoyed every minute of it. The $1 pizza slices, the curious characters on the subway, the majestic museums, the lush green parks, the multicultural diversity. It was truly an unforgettable experience and I can’t wait to revisit.
